Investment Opportunities and New Developments in Infrastructure and Energy Projects in Brazil

Brazil has been successfully attracting foreign investors from all over the world to game-changing infrastructure and energy projects. The pipeline of projects ahead presents even greater opportunities, including in hot sectors such as energy transition, toll roads, water and sanitation, and digital infrastructure, among others. Recognizing the need to attract more capital to these projects, local legislation has been passed to offer tax full exemption on certain cross-border project bonds.

The Federal Government of Brazil has also launched Eco Invest Brasil, an initiative aimed at making cross-border financing and investments even more attractive by reducing costs of Brazilian-eligible projects (blended finance) and helping to mitigate FX risks (liquidity and hedge facilities).

To examine these opportunities, the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Machado Meyer Advogados and Latham & Watkins LLP, has gathered top representatives of Tesouro Nacional (the National Treasury of Brazil), Programa de Parcerias de Investimentos – PPI (Investment Partnership Program), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), financial institutions, and world-class investors, who discussed recent developments and new trends in infrastructure and energy projects in Brazil.
