Art in Brackets™ Presents “Sampa Artscapes,” Showcasing São Paulo’s Dynamic Artistic Landscape in New York

New York, NY - On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, Art in Brackets™, an art consultancy and advisory firm, opens the exhibition Sampa Artscapes, which presents the city of São Paulo as a field of cultural landscapes in transformation, constituted by aesthetic, social, emotional, and material codes in dynamic exchange.

The exhibition brings together works by a group of artists who live or work in São Paulo, often affectionately referred to as “Sampa.” It reveals points of convergence, tension, and mutual influence between conceptual and vernacular practices. By engaging artists working from diverse cultural positions, the exhibition proposes a relational framework in which affectivities emerge through encounters, translation, and friction between conceptual practices and those rooted in material knowledge, artisanal traditions, popular iconographies, Indigenous traditions, informal architectures, and everyday gestures.

Alongside the exhibition, Art in Brackets™ will host conversations between artists and cultural agents, as well as programs tailored for collectors and art professionals, further extending the project’s institutional reach and strengthening international networks. In support of the local artistic community, Art in Brackets™ also offers studio space for artists in collaboration with Residency Unlimited.

Sampa Artscapes poses the following questions: How can contemporary art in one of the world’s largest metropolises activate artistic languages with international resonance without fixing them to a place? And how might these practices open up new ways of seeing through a multiplicity of voices, materials, and temporalities that exceed geography?

This exhibition was developed in collaboration with Galeria Estação, Almeida & Dale, Carmo Johnson Projects, Nara Roesler, Luciana Brito, Galeria Albuquerque Contemporânea, A Gentil Carioca, Aura, Verve, Luisa Strina, Marília Razuk, and Central Galeria, with support from SP Negócios and the City Hall of São Paulo. It aims to strengthen the international presence of galleries and artists based in São Paulo, foster new commercial opportunities, and deepen connections with collectors, institutions, and the artistic community in New York.
